The Friends of Georgetown Waterfront Park (FOGWP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with over 200 members working to raise awareness of the park and support its maintenance through fundraising; we also build awareness of the unique features of the park through the design and maintenance of its web site.
FOGWP also tries to raise funds to support some unfunded features of the park. For example, there is an old Sycamore tree that has survived the parking lot, the railroad, the industrial period. Luckily, it’s still standing having been preserved during the construction of the portion of the Park west of Wisconsin Avenue. However, no provision was made to landscape the area around the tree to preserve and protect its roots. The tree is currently a focal point of the park and a magnet where people to sit quietly and contemplate the river or read on its banks. We need to raise about $6000 to landscape the area around the tree.
Another unfunded landscaping need is the area in front of Overlook 1 which was not included in the original construction budget.
