The
dirt is flying! In early 2007, Fort Myer Construction Corporation
began building the Georgetown Waterfront Park from 34th Street to
Wisconsin Avenue, NW. After more than 30 years of fundraising and
advocacy, this new national park soon will beautify Washington’s
shoreline.
While the first phase of construction is underway, park supporters
are raising funds for the Wisconsin Avenue Plaza, the lively gateway
to the park between Wisconsin Avenue and the Washington Harbour
complex. The plaza includes features
that will make this park a distinctive landmark on the Potomac River,
such as an interactive fountain, an arbor overhanging park benches
and tables, and stairs to the river’s edge. The design concept
of the Wisconsin Avenue Plaza has been approved by the National
Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) and the U.S. Commission of Fine
Arts.
Join
a dedicated coalition of community members, public agencies, and
private partners to help us build the Wisconsin Avenue Plaza and
complete the park. Thanks to the potential opportunity for matching
funds provided by the
National Park Centennial Initiative, there is an unprecedented
window of time to make this possible. Use this site to learn more
about how you can help create this
stunning space on the Georgetown waterfront.
